IATF 16949: AUDITS IN LINE WITH VDA 6.3

The automotive sector places high demands on manufacturers, who strive for more stability, more conformity and low prices. To ensure safety in these areas, automotive manufacturers, or OEMs, require all suppliers in their supply chain to be at least ISO 9001 certified and comply with the IATF 16949 standard. Suppliers are best certified effectively for the IATF standard.

Thanks to targeted controls, the IATF 16949 quality management system enables the company to for sound business management that the OEMs need. This means, among other things, that the IATF 16949 imposes at least three types of audits, focusing respectively on the system, the production process and the product. The production process and product audits must be carried out according to the VDA 6.3 guidelines.

VDA 6.3 AS AN INDICATOR

The VDA 6.3 was fully revised and structured in 2016 to meet the specific requirements of the automotive sector. As a result, this standard is not only perfectly aligned to the automotive industry and its process audits, but it is also particularly effective. In the first lace, the VDA 6.3 standard is used to measure the quality capabilities of potential suppliers, and the continuous quality capability of existing suppliers. Secondly, the VDA 6.3 comes in handy when corrections are made to supplier's processes, or when the supplier moves, for example.

A good knowledge of the VDA guidelines is crucial. In addition, the VDA 6.3 offers numerous advantages:

  • Connection to the process-oriented approach of internal audits and the IATF 16949
  • Standard approach to process audits that can be used in every department and organization.
